MEET: TREY EWALD

Q: How did you get into music?

A: i was introduced to great music really young, and i was super blessed to be able to grow up being surrounded by music. my uncle is a musician and i spent a ton of time at his studio as young as like 2 years old just taking it all in. my parents didn’t make music themselves, but are big music fans and introduced me to their favorites really young, so i was exposed to a wide range of music early on, which i think has helped shaped my taste and the music i make to this day.

Q: What inspires you to create?

A: the specifics are constantly changing, but what never changes is that the spark of inspiration always starts with a feeling. it could be a feeling of sadness, inspiration, awe, gratitude, anger, love, or anything in between. but it always starts with a strong feeling.

Q: How do you prepare yourself to write a new song?

A: i’m not sure i really do. oftentimes great ideas hit me when i least expect them to, especially in the shower, which is always fun because then i have to try to remember my idea until i’m out and can record a voice memo hahahah.

in the more practical sense of heading into a co-write, i try to prepare by bringing something to build off of, whether that is a melody, lyric, feeling, or just a story about an experience in my life; it just has to be authentic.

i think the best way to prepare to write is to just get out there and live out the stories that you’ll write songs about later on in the future.

Q: What’s your favorite song you’ve put out?

A: right now, it’s definitely “all my friends are getting married”. that was such a fun song to make, especially since it was born out of a bit of insecurity, but we flipped that on its head and made it a fun lil celebratory bop. i hope people can relate and realize we’re all on our own timelines; no one is behind!

Ana’s note: I shot that cover art ;)

Q: Who have you worked with in the past and who would you like to work with in the future?

A: i’ve been so blessed to work with some amazing artists, writers, producers, etc. i did AMFGM with joe fox and kayla pichichero, who are some of my favorite collaborators to make music with. kayla and i have a few others we’re finishing up that will be announced fairly soon. i’ve also been in with jp donelan and piao - REALLY excited to put some of those out as well (potentially the next single?!)

in the future, the top few that came to mind as dream collaborators are jon bellion, max martin, bruno mars, and justin timberlake.

really, i just want to keep creating with people that inspire me to be the best version of myself.
